Study Art. Build Skill. Paint with Intention.

There are principles behind strong artwork — and once you understand them, progress becomes steady and satisfying.

I work one-on-one or with small groups (maximum 3 students), teaching drawing fundamentals, color control, composition, and painting technique. My approach blends clear instruction with hands-on demonstration so you leave each session with both knowledge and momentum.

All levels welcome.

Botanical Drawing at Walpole Garden

Slow down, look closely, and discover the beauty of native plants through drawing. Small weekly classes focused on observation, structure, and the art of seeing.

Week 1 – Seeing Like a Botanical Artist

Learn how botanical illustrators observe plants. We’ll study overall plant structure, gesture, and proportion while beginning a simple observational drawing.

Week 2 – Understanding Plant Structure

Break down stems, leaves, and growth patterns into simple shapes. Learn techniques to map the architecture of a plant so drawings feel accurate and alive.

Week 3 – Detail & Texture

Explore the smaller features that give plants their character—leaf edges, veins, buds, and textures. We’ll practice careful observation and line work.

Week 4 – Creating a Finished Botanical Study

Bring together structure, proportion, and detail to complete a finished botanical drawing inspired by the historic illustration tradition of Walpole Garden.
